Time for  from  The Life Junkies to talk us through the last 48 hours in the European U21 tournament in Denmark.

The second round of fixtures kicked off with Switzerland taking on Iceland. After just scraping a 1-0 win over the Danes, Switzerland were looking to continue their push for the Semi’s while Iceland were under pressure after a poor 2-0 loss to Belarus.

Unfortunately for the Icelanders things got worse straight from the kick off when their defence was caught napping by a looping ball over the top that was struck beautifully into the net by Fabian Frei. The Icelandic defence didn’t learn from the early goal, letting too many balls go over their head and giving the Swiss too much room in and around their area.

Another new writer makes his debut for gibfootballshow – Saurabh Ananth or better known as looks at the teams that just didn’t cut it this season in the Bundesliga.

2010/11 brought out one of the best Bundesliga seasons ever, with a lot of stories throughout the season. Dortmund winning the league while stamping their brand of football on the league was one, Hannover and Mainz’ brave and eventually successful battle for European football was another big one. We could go down to the lower end of the table with Eintracht Frankfurt’s relegation after being 7th in December or Gladbach’s miracle comeback after being firm favourites for relegation. While all those were very interesting, the underachievement of perennial contenders Werder Bremen, Stuttgart and Schalke were surprising and it’s what this will focus on. And as they prepared for their seasons in the summer of 2010 none of these teams thought they would be where they were.

As we look ahead to July’s Copa America, here’s the second of our three-part preview by , looking at Group B.

There’s not much to say about Brazil that hasn’t been said previously. Mano Menezes is currently using the 4-2-3-1 that’s been very popular in domestic football in the last 18 months. It allows the wealth of attacking talent to all fit into the XI with, of course, plenty in reserve. Santos starlet Neymar plays on the left of the attacking three, most probably alongside Robinho and former Manchester City man, Elano.

Making her gibfootballshow debut is – She tells us of the problem and the actions surrounding homophobia in German football culture.

On the pitch there are 22 strong physical men. There are two teams, and on each, 10 kick the ball around the field, one stays between the posts. The whistle blows, a red card is given. But to what you may ask?

To homophobia.

Please give a warm gibfootballshow welcome to Stefan Kelly . One of a host of new writers that will become regular fixtures of the GFS family.

Brazil is in a peculiar situation at the moment. With the impending pressure placed on the national team, or Selecao , growing greater in light of the recent fall from grace in the eyes of the samba nation. Last week’s 0-0 result against Holland hardly delighted the home fans in Goiania. The European based players were thrown out of their comfort zone and given the job to impress their own fans. If Brazil fail to live up to the expectations of people around the world in time to win the world cup on home soil in 2014, it would simply be a disaster.

Calling all writer and bloggers…gibfootballshow NEEDS YOU!!!

Here at GFS we are looking to expand our knowledge base for the new season. It would be fantastic to have a variety of writers/bloggers agree to write for the site about their league/country of interest.

Over the past since months it has been a pleasure to feature the work of some excellent writers from around the world. From Poland to Argentina to the Youth tournaments in Italy – gibfootballshow has had it covered.

So for next season we would like to bring the site in line with the goals of the podcast. Bringing the stories from the regions that the British mainstream press pretty much ignore, and spreading the information around the world.

So if you would like to write for gibfootballshow then please let us know. We are looking for people who concentrate on Spain, Holland, Germany, Scandanavia, Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia, North and South America….basically anywhere.

We are not looking for weekly reviews of the league action. Take a look at something the readers will find interesting and if it’s one/two pieces a months…great.

If you are interested please send an email with your section of interest to

Look forward to hearing from you.
